Mayors Comments for June 2013
Once more our community has come together at the Relay for Life to support the local branch of the Cancer Society. $90,000! Job well done.
Last week we held our public budget meeting. Thanks to the rate payers and others that attended. It is our wish to provide a forum for discussion and the budget impacts us all. Special “thank you” to Councillor Jenkins and the finance staff for the extra time and effort.
Extra thanks to our Deputy Mayor and councillors who have stood in for me at many functions over the last month. I truly appreciate it.
Meetings of the Joint Fire Services Committee are taking place and the staff will soon be complete.
There have been a couple of meetings with MMAH, Bancroft and Hastings Highlands to get things going for the ODRAP funding for the private sector. This as well is a Joint Committee. Special thanks to folks from the community who are willing to take part.
The County Roads Meeting that took place in Madoc will help all of the municipalities within Hastings County. There is a lot of work to be done but I believe we are on the right track.
At County Council in May all of the Mayors and Reeves who received Queens Jubilee Medals wore them while Warden Philips and immediate Past Warden Clemens received theirs.
The Belleville Intelligencer carried an article written by Anne Rector titled The Other County. Well worth the read. We need to promote Hastings County in general and North Hastings in particular.
No matter what the weather is like we are now in our summer season. Please watch for and attend as many functions as you can. They are just plain fun to attend and the volunteers that give so many hours to keep things happening appreciate your presence.
FYI Over the next week I will be speaking at the Police Chiefs of Ontario AGM in Peterborough and at Lady Faire at Grail Springs.
See you at Canada Day and Wheels, Water and Wings.
